Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

If you’re staring at an orange canvas and not sure how to decorate it, here are some fun ideas!

  • Pick different colors to paint all over the pumpkin. For added fun, you could paint the pumpkins one solid color and then splatter paint with different colors for a cool effect! This should be done outside because it can get messy.
  • Use masking or painter’s tape to make a design on the pumpkin like a spiderweb or silly face. Then paint over the area. Once the paint dries, peel off the tape and see what you created!
  • Add stickers! Little ones love putting stickers on everything, so why not on pumpkins? Take it a step further by painting over the stickers and then removing them to reveal fun patterns.
  • Press molding dough onto pumpkins to create unique 3D designs.
  • Glue construction paper or felt onto pumpkins to make animals or characters from your favorite books.
  • Add candy corn all over the pumpkin using a hot glue gun  — ask your child what they think it looks like. Maybe a pufferfish or porcupine?
  • Wrap pumpkins in gauze for a mummy-inspired look!
  • Gather natural materials like sticks and leaves to attach to your pumpkins.
  • Try melting crayons on top of pumpkins.
  • Add googly eyes, beads or sticky gems.
