Goddard School graduate awarded $10,000 to help pursue nursing degree
Goddard Systems, LLC, manager of The Goddard School franchise system, the nation’s leading premium early childhood education provider, congratulates Katie Engels as the 2023 Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship winner. Now in its 15th year, this $10,000 scholarship is granted annually to a graduating high school senior who successfully completed a Goddard School pre-k or kindergarten program. The recipient must demonstrate the work ethic, perseverance and commitment to the community that exemplifies Anthony A. Martino, the founder of The Goddard School franchise system. Engels is a 2011 kindergarten graduate from The Goddard School of Piscataway.
“Katie’s steadfast dedication to helping others truly stood out among all of the superb applications we received and we are thrilled to name her the 2023 Anthony A. Martino Memorial Scholarship recipient,” said Dennis R. Maple, Chairman and CEO of Goddard Systems. “Katie is committed to making the world a better place, and on behalf of the entire Goddard community, we are honored to be a part of her educational journey.”
Engels, an incoming freshman at West Chester University in Pennsylvania, is focused on helping her community thrive. She works as a lifeguard and swim instructor for children with special needs and volunteers with numerous local organizations. At West Chester, she plans to major in nursing and looks forward to a fulfilling career that will enable her to continue assisting those in need.
“At The Goddard School, I learned how to be creative, how to learn and, most importantly, how to be kind to others,” said Engels. “I will always cherish the solid foundation of loving support that I received and will use the lessons I learned to care for others in the future. I’m forever grateful that I experienced what Goddard has to offer.”
Engels is a 2023 graduate of Piscataway High School. In addition to the work in her community, she is a member of the National Honors Society, World Language National Honors Society and Science National Honors Society. She was also the captain of her school’s varsity swimming and gymnastics teams.
“When she was here, Katie was very a very determined and self-motivated student who knew what she wanted to accomplish,” said Laura O’Donnell, owner of The Goddard School of Piscataway. “I remember her kindergarten teacher saying how sweet, caring and determined she is, and I can’t wait to see the good she continues to do in this world.”
